Saheed has been uploading educational videos on YouTube for over a year; with 68 videos on his channel, he has about 800 subscribers and 90,000 views overall. This is not a good result for him, as he felt he should have achieved more on his channel, and making videos from one niche to the other with the hope of breaking through at the emergence of a trending topic made matters worse for him.
These strategies didn’t work for him as most visitors to the channel were confused about what his channel was really about, and this made most of his subscribers ignore his videos each time YouTube recommended them, and these actions hurt his channel badly.
Saheed is on the verge of giving up on creating content on YouTube and needs to try one more strategy before doing so. He is getting close to monetizing his channel, and he can’t wait to learn how to create an AdSense account and link it to his channel.
Discovering the Untapped Niche
Several days have gone by, and he couldn’t get a good video on the AdSense topic, and he just reached the YPP threshold and must apply for monetization immediately. Sadly, he will go through this process ignorantly, as most videos on AdSense are in the Hindu language.
While searching for a good tutorial on AdSense, Saheed noticed that there is no recent video made in the English language about AdSense, and he noticed that there is a great demand for this video, as many people have shared their frustration about the application process. Saheed sees an opportunity here, with the little idea he got from the visuals of the tutorials in Hindu. While on the application, he recorded the entire AdSense process, made an English tutorial, and uploaded it on his channel.
Things Looking Good
For the first time, Saheed got positive comments on his channel from viewers because of his video on AdSense, though the video wasn’t doing well because of how bad the state of his channel was.
As the days went by, he started getting more views with questions in the comments about AdSense, and this increased his curiosity to know more about the topic by experimenting with his channel and sharing the outcomes with his audience.
Having a good background in digital marketing, Saheed made a dedicated video on his channel explaining how content creators made money by opening an AdSense account, and he promoted the video with YouTube Ads – which is the video section of Google Ads.
With the paid promotion, his video reached more people searching for how to resolve their AdSense challenges, and the reference video in the promoted video did well organically. In no time, the YouTube impressions on the referenced video surged to an all-time high with good retention time.
The Promotion Magic
From 200 views a day, Saheed’s channel’s organic views surged to 2,000 views a day in less than two months. With this new development, he had to pivot his content to focus more on AdSense and help creators resolve their issues as they reach out to him. Aside from what his AdSense videos earned him from ad revenue, especially from high CPM countries, his consultancy earned him even more.
This is a typical example of positioning one’s content towards a topic that is in high demand yet unattended to. For a growing channel, a little push with paid promotion will create awareness for your channel and drive your content to prospective patronage.
Saheed’s semi-organic strategy and more will be explained in my upcoming YouTube Ads Masterclass for Creatives. Click here to join the Pre-class sessions and subscribe to my YouTube channel. You can also read how you can keep up with the Algorithm with YouTube Ads.
